Benefits of participating:
-
Be ahead of the curve in terms of viewing and evaluating this new CV format.
-
Participation demonstrates a commitment to research culture, which is encouraging for applicants.
-
People, Culture and Environment is likely to form a significant part of the assessment for REF29.
To participate, you need to:
-
Be a PI recruiting a postdoc or teaching associate.
-
Put us in contact with your Departmental Administrator or HR team to include our short stock-text in your advert and further particulars.
-
Ask applicants to submit a Narrative CV as well as a traditional CV (we also link applicants to training if they want).
-
Assemble a panel of at least 2 additional colleagues.
-
Not look at applications as they come in. The ARRC team will have access to the Web Recruitment portal, can keep you updated on the number of applications, and will provide you with the applications following the advertisement’s closing date.
-
Independently from your other panel members, rank all of the applicants based on one CV type using our ranking spreadsheet. Then rank all applicants again using both CVs they provided.
-
After the recruitment is fully completed, have a short (30-minute) feedback interview with the ARRC team.
Other questions PIs often ask us:
We’ve asked our previous participating PIs (> 19) if the applicant pool was smaller than expected, and none of them indicated they had a smaller or lower quality applicant pool than usual.
All applicants will be required to submit both a traditional CV and a Narrative CV. They will also be given access to a 25-minute introductory video about the Narrative CV format we are using.
We believe this request for an additional document is commensurate with requests for writing samples or other additional documents.
Applicants will also be given the choice whether to consent to allowing the ARRC team to view their CVs for research purposes.
You will need to review some Narrative CVs, which are maximum 3 pages. However, in our experience of running the study so far, applicants’ Narrative CVs are generally shorter, and only about 40% of applicants submit a Narrative CV.
